How to use this site |
The students work on this site is stored as pdfs - portable document files. These can be opened online and downloaded. |
To make a pdf file, the students work is scanned in, in colour where needed and the separate pages are brought together in a single document, which is then converted by Acrobat into a pdf file. |
Since a single GCSE portfolio can be more than 40 pages long, the pdfs are often formidably big. If they are really huge, we try to pick out representative work, leaving out the rest. For example, a GCSE file might have 4 A3 sheets showing research. By picking one or two of these (and telling you so), we can give a good sense of the students achievement, but keep the file size a little lower. |
Take a look at this sample pdf file. It shows some primary school work on mechanisms, using the theme of Fairgrounds. Just click below. (You will need Acrobat Reader in order to view it.) |

When you click on a link to a pdf, the file will open in your browser. Be patient, it can take awhile! At this stage you can look through the file. You have probably used Acrobat Reader before - it lets you go through page by page (use the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen), jump to the page of your choice (type a new page number into the page number box) or move back and forth between the pages you have already looked at (the browser style arrow keys at the top of the page). You can zoom in or out on the pages using the magnifying glass icon in the left hand toolbar. As you zoom in, you will find that the photographs get grainy very quickly. This is because the image files have been heavily compressed to keep the overall pdf file size down. Let us know whether they are still usable at this size! To save the file to your own hard drive, click on the save icon in Acrobat Reader. We have left the files open (Acrobat allows them to be locked in various ways) so that you can use them as you wish. Please acknowledge Interchange, the teacher (and the student if appropriate) when you use the material. |
